FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:How do I book a performance?

A:A performance can be booked through Tom Sobel.

Q:How far in advance do I need to contact you to schedule a performance?

A:Generally, we need at least one to two months notice to coordinate a performance at your facility.

Q:Is a performance only for service users?

A:No. Anyone the facility chooses can attend. Reach 4 Dance encourages service users, carers, family, and staff to attend the performance.

Q:Who books the venue, date, and time of a performance?

A:It is the responsibility of the mental health facility to locate and book a performance space. Tom Sobell, the Reach 4 Dance Programme Co-ordinator, will work hand-in-hand with the facility to coordinate times and dates that is agreeable to everyone.

Q:Can I have more than one performance?

A:Reach 4 Dance has a budget to offer a certain number of performances and workshops a year. Thus, if we provide you with two shows, then that means another facility will not be able to have a performance. However, if your facility is able to make a contribution to additional dancer fees, we can discuss the option of a second performance.

Q:Do you bring lunch?

A:The mental health facility typically provides the guests and performers with refreshments.

Q:How much does a performance cost?

A:A performance is free to all Mental Health Trusts and Facilities in the UK thanks to an education grant provided by Janssen-Cilag.

Q:What kind of dance is performed?

A:Reach 4 Dance provides the audience with various forms of dance. While we attempt to show classical ballet, we also have dancers that perform jazz, musical theatre, modern, tap, hip-hop, and body popping styles. In addition, several of our dancers are accomplished singers as well. The Reach 4 Dance Programme Coordinator will work with you to provide a range of dance styles and will attempt to ensure some styles geared towards your service user population.

Q:Are there any specific requirements for the venue?

A:Yes. While the Reach 4 Dance artists can adapt their performance to just about any space, we do have some basic guidelines when you are thinking about a performance space. Ideally the dancers need a space 12 feet wide by 20 feet long. A ceiling height of 12 feet is also ideal, so that the dancers can demonstrate various lifts. In addition, a hard surface is better than carpet. Please keep in mind, these are only guidelines, we are able to perform in just about any environment.

Q:How long is a performance?

A:Typically our performances last between an hour and an hour and a half.

Q:Is Reach 4 Dance a therapy session?

A:No. We do not consider Reach 4 Dance a therapy session. This is an opportunity for services users to experience live professional dance in an up close, personal, and interactive setting.

Q:Does Janssen-Cilag have any influence on the project?

A:No, but the company supports the project with marketing materials and appropriate support from the JC team.
